Factions of Tion

There are several different axes of power in Tion: political, family, corporate, religious, economic, and military.

Political Axis

By an act of the Senate (read: Imperial decree), the Tion Cluster is (mostly) divided into three "member states", each with their own (puppet) senators:

Member State Capital Population Major Worlds
Cronese Mandate Chandaar 9,482 Bil Chandaar, Argai
Allied Tion Jaminere 7,064 Bil Lianna, Cadinth, Corlax
Tion Hegemony Desevro 4,912 Bil Raxus, Tion

These three states contain about 80% of what are generally considered to be Tion worlds. Some notable exceptions:

Most of these are independent Throneworlds (see Family below), deliberately kept out of the political mix.

Cronese Mandate

Organized as a sort of constitutional monarchy, similar to the former Kingdom of Tion under House Archon, but with most of the powers of the hereditary monarch delegated to a Regency Council which is effectively appointed by the Empire (and typically consists of a mix of rival factions, so as to ensure uselessness). Ceremonial duties of the now-absent monarch are performed by a Viceroy, also chosen by said council.

Allied Tion

On paper, a representative republic, but in practice, a Corporatocracy, with only the tiniest veneer of democracy atop a pay-per-vote system. Politics here are dominated by corporations such as Santhe-Sienar and New Life, with the concerns of ordinary citizens considered unimportant, save for a few token speeches and the occasional handout when the natives get restless.

Tion Hegemony

A loose confederacy of worlds, formerly united in their burning opposition to the Galactic Republic, now administrated by a puppet government from a world so remote that most government vessels have travel further to reach their constituent stars than they do to reach Imperial Center.

A more sensible capital might have been Raxus Prime, but that world is under Imperial Quarantine due to its history as the capital of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, and the entire Raxus system is not technically part of the Tion Hegemony, nor is neighboring Tion, ancient homeworld of the entire Tionese people.

Family

Quite a lot of the legacy of Tionese power and politics is tied up in matters of family, specifically of the Twelve Houses of Tion and their numerous vassals and bannermen. While the core families tend to remain fairly small (the better to resolve any matters of succession), family holdings are vast, including entire planets claimed as personal property of various houses. Outside their private planets and star systems, the Twelve Houses and their ilk own huge percentages of private property, corporate stock, and (effectively) government throughout the Tion Cluster and beyond.

Under the current political regime, the majority of the noble holdings lie outside the government boundaries of the Tion Cluster. This could be of use to someone looking to consolidate power without ruffling any Imperial feathers...
